American composer Michael John Trotta has reached new creative heights with his breathtaking recording collaborations. He teamed up with the world-renowned Tenebrae Choir and the legendary London Symphony Orchestra (LSO) to create a deeply moving musical experience. These artists blend old traditions with fresh sounds to touch the hearts of modern listeners.
A major highlight of this partnership is Trotta’s poignant album, Requiem. The award-winning choir Tenebrae, conducted by Nigel Short, brings out the lush harmonies and soaring melodies of the music with unmatched precision.
To add even more power to this release, a special charity single of the Introit and Kyrie features the grand instrumentation played by the London Symphony Orchestra. This beautiful track was released to raise funds and awareness for Hospice UK.
Trotta also worked with Tenebrae on a stunning collection of a cappella motets, including O Nata Lux and Dies Irae. These recordings showcase the pure beauty of the human voice. Together, these elite British musicians bring Trotta’s elegant, deeply spiritual choral masterworks to life in a way that feels both timeless and brand new.

Requiem CD

Unique in its ability to bring death and dying into the public conversation, the Requiem Mass has captivated the hearts and minds of all those who have experienced loss. Many have found that the Requiem provides and opportunity to continue healing and engenders a sense of hope. Trotta’s new work for choir and organ is a powerfully appealing and tender exploration of love and loss. Grounded in tradition while incorporating a present-day harmonic language, two Gregorian Chant motives are interwoven throughout the lush harmonies and soaring melodies exquisitely sung by Tenebrae.

O Nata Lux CD

The human voice reaches new heights with this sublime journey to heavens. The clarity and focus of O Nata Lux transport you to a place of transcendent bliss. In the tradition of the great cathedrals, this new a cappella work from Michael John Trotta is masterfully sung by Tenebrae under the direction of Nigel Short. From the gentle unfolding of Surge Illuminare and O Nata Lux (both exploring light) to the fierce intensity of Dies Irae and the poignancy of Ave Verum Corpus the performance is a breathtakingly transcendent, meditative experience leaving you refreshed and energized. Magnificat CD is a new 40-minute work for choir, soprano and bass soli, and orchestra delivers a rich tapestry portraying anticipation of the wonder. A strong sense of architecture guides the listener through the three contrasting movements, full of triumphant drama. Trotta’s work is a rare example of music that is both grounded in tradition and appealing to the modern listener.

For A Breath of Ecstasy (CD)

For a Breath of Ecstasy is a work for Choir, Oboe, and Strings in 7 movements. It was commissioned by NSU Choir to commemorate the work of Sara Teasdale.

Totus Tuus (CD) is the new 6-track EP from New York City-based composer Michael John Trotta. Following his debut album, which was hailed as “elegant, singable music with strong spiritual heft”, Michael John Trotta returns with Totus Tuus, a superbly crafted intimate a cappella works performed by The New York Repertory Singers, conducted by the composer, and The Singers conducted by Matthew Culloton.
