Seven Last Words (Septem Verbum Ultima
For A Breath of Ecstasy
|Do not stand at my grave and weep
I am not there; I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow,
I am the diamond glints on snow.
I am the sun on ripened grain, I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush,
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circled flight.
I am the soft star that shines at night.Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there; I did not die.
|The grass has dried up, and the flower has fallen. For the Spirit of the Lord has blown over it.
The grass has dried up, and the flower has fallen.
Therefore I seek the faith that sets it right
Amid the lilies and the candle-light.
I think on Heaven, for in that air so clear
We may meet, once confused and parted here
|The Lord is my shepherd: I shall lack nothing.
He makes me to lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He guides me in the paths of righteousness
for his name’s sake.Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
I will fear no evil, for you are with me.
Your rod and your staff, they comfort me
You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies. You have anointed my head with oil.
My cup runs over.Surely goodness and loving kindness shall follow me all the days of my life,
And I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
|The light shines in the darkness,
the darkness has not overcome it.
You will never walk in darkness,
but will have the light of life.
Arise, shine; for thy light is come,
and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.
|Say not in grief that life is no more
but say in thankfulness that life wasA death is not the extinguishing of a light,
but the putting out of the lamp
because the dawn has come. One short sleep past, we wake eternally
And death shall be no more
|Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth,
for the first heaven and the first earth
had passed away.
God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes;
And death shall be no more.
|Love conquers all, even death itself;
let us to surrender to love.
Behold love shall bless us,
console us, and dry our tears,
until we meet again.
